City of San Diego Rain Tank Voucher Program

The Stormwater Department was awarded a grant from the Integrated Regional Water Management (IRWM) Program to enhance the City’s Water Conservation Rebates Program by reducing the financial barrier to harvesting rainwater. This Rain Tank Voucher Program helps residents protect water quality, save money, and collect rainwater. When it rains, stormwater picks up pollution and flows untreated into our waterways. We are offering this voucher for San Diegans who want to implement strategies on their property to turn rainwater into a valuable resource and help prevent pollution!

What is a Rain Tank Voucher?

A Rain Tank Voucher allows you to purchase a rain tank at an upfront discounted rate. The voucher acts like a coupon or discount code on an online purchase. Simply apply, get approved, then purchase your discounted rain tank!

Eligibility

• City of San Diego residents only. Rain barrels and/or cisterns must be installed within the City of San Diego.
• Renters are eligible for a voucher. Renters should seek permission from property owner to install a rain tank.
• Individual units within multi-family residential buildings are eligible.

Note: Funding for this project has been provided in full or in part from the Water Quality, Supply, and Infrastructure Improvement Act of 2014 and through an agreement with the State Department of Water Resources. Funding for vouchers is available through the City of San Diego Stormwater Department, and will be distributed on a first come, first served basis until exhausted. This program is subject to change without prior notification.

Steps to apply and receive a voucher:

1. Fill out and sign the application linked below. 
2. Submit application to the Stormwater Department via Google Form. Link is below.
3. Decide on a tank type. Read program guidelines and decide which type of barrel or cistern you would like. Rain tank options and prices listed below.

4. Vouchers will be mailed or emailed within 4 weeks. Take this time to review the Rain Tank Guide and familiarize yourself with the best management practices.
