Waterwise landscaping in San Diego

City Of San Diego Water Conservation
Rebate Program

Think Blue San Diego helps residents protect water quality, save money, and collect rainwater with conservation rebates. When it rains, stormwater picks up pollution and flows untreated into our waterways. We offer rebates for San Diegans who want to implement strategies on their property to turn rainwater into a valuable resource and help prevent pollution!

Instead of letting rainwater flow off your property, you can collect it in rain barrels and cisterns (also referred to as rain tanks) for on-site use. Collecting rainwater can help you:

  • Irrigate your plants
  • Reduce flooding around your property
  • Protect water quality

Rain Gutters

When left unmanaged, rainwater can cause several
issues for your roof, foundation and landscaping.
Rain gutters divert water away from your
property and protect it from:

  • Erosion
  • Water damage and mold
  • Foundation shifting or sinking

Downspout redirects direct rainwater to a vegetated area, like a rain garden, protecting water quality and reducing landscape irrigation costs.

Turfgrass replacement rebate

Replacing existing grass with low water and San Diego native plants is a cost-effective way to save water and beautify your landscape. Native plants have already adapted to our local climate and require little to no water or fertilizer. Wildlife, pollinators and birds also prefer native landscapes, which is another environmental benefit.
